🔡Letters of the Alphabet and Sight Words to Practice With Your Child🌟

Turn Everyday Moments Into Learning Opportunities with Alphabet Letters and Sight Words.

Word puzzle letters spell "WORD" with a magnifying glass. "LOOK" features cartoon eyes. A dictionary labeled "A-Z" is on a pastel background.

If you're teaching your little one to read, you’ve probably heard a lot about sight words. These are simple, everyday words that children should be able to recognize instantly without needing to sound them out. Pairing them with letters of the alphabet is a great way to help early readers make connections and build confidence.

In this blog post, I will be sharing a simple letter-by-letter guide with sight words you can practice with your child at home.

🌟 Why Sight Words Matter

Sight words build the foundation for fluent reading. Many of these words don’t follow regular phonetic rules, so memorizing them by sight makes reading smoother and faster. The earlier your child gets familiar with them, the easier reading new sentences will feel.

🎲 Fun Practice Ideas

  • Alphabet Sight Word Hopscotch: Draw letters on the ground, call out a sight word, and have your child jump to the matching letter.

  • Sight Word Match-Ups: Write letters on one set of cards and matching sight words on another. Let your child pair them.

  • Daily Word Wall: Add one new sight word for each letter every week to your fridge or a wall in your child’s room.

📌 Final Thoughts

Teaching sight words doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By linking them to the letters your child is already learning, you’re making reading more natural and fun. Keep the activities light and playful; the more your child enjoys it, the quicker they’ll catch on.

Parent Challenge

Pick 1 or 2 letters today and choose 3-5 sight words from each. Practice saying them, then challenge your child to use two of those words in a simple sentence.

Example: I can jump up.

Have fun with it, turn it into a game or a silly sentence contest! Then, share your favourite sentence in the comments or write a blog post about how it went. 📚✨
